Over the past year, we’ve been experimenting with several ways to use Twitter. Some of our apps were well received, some others not so much. In the past few months, we’ve been restructuring to focus on the business usage of Twitter as a communication and marketing platform. Therefore we will be shutting down four of our least performing apps on Friday (Nov 27)

Please don’t read between the lines. Our other apps are doing very well and they’re not going anywhere. This will free us up to keep improving on these apps, so expect more features and a better integration between them.

So, the Twtapps that we’ll be shutting down on Friday are:

TwtBiz: Twitter Business Directory. There are many well built Twitter directories out there and we see no need to maintain this one as it is.

TwtWlst: Twitter Registry Gift. We believe the general idea still has some potential, however it’s not one of our focus at the moment.

TwtPets: Game for pet lovers. Who doesn’t like pets, uh? We’ve enjoyed seeing all the Twitter Pets out there, however this is not an app in line with or current focus either.

TwtCard: Twitter Greeting Card. This was our very first app. It was a fun little project that got us started thinking about other ways Twitter could be used for.

We’d like to thank everyone who have used these apps and have taken the time to contact us with comments/suggestions. We really appreciated it!

Twtapps went live on Jan 7, 2009 (one month ago) with twtcard, twtpoll and twtvite. Technically twtcard and twtpoll were around a few days before.

So here are what we accomplished this month:

• Seven simple, fun and useful Twitter apps.
• Three of them featured on Techcrunch: twtpoll, twtvite and twtQpon.
• One mention @ Mashable about twtapps.

It’s been about a month since we launched our first twtapp and we’d like to thank everyone who has used them so far. We especially appreciate the many feedback/suggestions we’ve received and we’re doing our best to accommodate all of the requests.

So, let’s take a look at how many cards, polls, invites, pets, and wish lists have been added/created so far.

twtpoll :: a simple survey/poll twitter app

twtvite :: a simple event manager twitter app

So, over the past week, I’ve been working on my twtapps and two TechCrunch articles, one Mashable and many more later, I have some stats to share with you.

Before I start, I just have to tell you that somebody isn’t happy at all with these results. That is YowTRIP. So please go check it out too!!! :)

There’s almost one tweet/minute about twtapps, twtcard, twtpoll or twtvite depending on the time of day. I have selected a few of my favorites to share with you:

So, the first one was twtcard, a simple greeting card twitter app. Twtcard was launched on Dec 17 and since then we’ve had 737 twtcards sent around the world. In January, most of its users came from the US (42%), Canada (7%), Germany (6%), the UK (6%) and 70 other countries.

Then on Jan 2, I launched twtpoll, a simple survey/poll twitter app. In 9 days, twtpoll has received over 55K visits (creating/responding to polls and checking results). There has been 1,456 polls and 15,812 responses. You can check out the most popular polls here. Twtpoll is most popular in the US (42%), Germany (11%), Thailand (7%), the UK (4%) and 113 other countries.

Twtvite, a simple event manager twitter app, was launched on Jan 7 and in 5 days has received over 5K visits (in five days). There has been 263 tweetups created. Twtvite is popular in the US (55%), Canada (8%), the UK (4%), Germany (3%) and 77 other countries.

Where do we go from here? We’ll keep developing simple twitter apps. We’re also going to be presenting at the Montreal NewTech Meetup next Tuesday (Jan 13) and I’ll be at the first Montreal Tweetup on Thursday (Jan 15). So, if you’re in the Montreal area, come by!
